Discovery Community College
Discovery Community College is seeking a Student Services Placement & Employment Coordinator to support students from admissions through to graduation, with a focus on practicum placements and employment outcomes.
Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours per week)Schedule: TBD; flexibility required for occasional evenings and weekends
Salary Range: $55,000 – $57,500 per annum (depending on experience)
Location: Surrey, BC
Key Responsibilities
Practicum Coordination & Student Support
- Manage and coordinate student practicum placements from initial preparation through completion
- Maintain and actively update practicum tracking systems (e.g., shared Excel master lists and databases)
- Monitor student readiness for practicum, including reviewing submissions (e.g., interest forms, required documentation)
- Schedule and coordinate interviews between students and host organizations
- Track placement progress, pending documentation, and follow-up requirements
- Document detailed student notes, interactions, and placement updates to support continuity and team collaboration
- Identify and prioritize urgent placement needs (e.g., students approaching deadlines
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners and host organizations
- Match students with suitable practicum opportunities based on program requirements and availability
- Share employer/host information with internal teams to ensure smooth placement transitions and coverage
- Support development of new practicum opportunities where required
Student Advising & Employment Support
- Provide students with labour market information, including job opportunities and skill requirements
- Support students with employment readiness, including interview coordination and guidance
- Assist in improving student outcomes through consistent engagement and follow-ups
Administrative & Operational Duties
- Maintain accurate, detailed records of all practicum and placement activities
- Use internal systems, MS Office tools, and customized databases to track and report on student progress
- Organize and support student events and engagement activities on campus
- Communicate regularly with internal teams to ensure alignment on timelines, priorities, and outstanding items
- Support transition planning and knowledge sharing (e.g., documenting processes, maintaining centralized resources)
What You Bring
- Experience in practicum coordination, scheduling, or employment counselling (preferred)
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment
- Advanced MS Office skills (especially Excel, Outlook)
- Excellent communication and attention to detail
- Ability to manage deadlines and shifting priorities independently
